Student Progress Reports

Twice a semester, faculty are asked to submit progress reports for the students in each of their classes. Progress reports are managed by the Office of Student Success through the EAB/Navigate system. The first progress report is normally due by the end of the fourth week of the semester, while the second is due one week after midterm grades are due. Progress reports are designed to help students who are struggling in one or more of their classes identify obstacles to their success and develop plans to improve before the end of the semester.

For each student, the faculty member is asked one primary question: Is the student at risk of failing the class? This should be interpreted broadly: If the student continues to along the current path, will they possibly fail the class by the end of the semester? If the answer is no, then no other information is required. If the answer is yes, faculty are asked to provide additional information to help the student and their advisor make a plan to address the challenges the student is facing.

Before you start

For each class you teach, make sure you have a clear idea of how each student is performing. Progress reports are normally focused on problems with academic performance, problems with attendance, or problems with student behavior. Having the Grades page in Brightspace open in a separate window can make it much easier to complete the progress reports.

Video walkthrough

This short video demonstrates how to log in into EAB and submit progress reports for your students.

Step by step

Part 1: Logging in

  1. You can use the link in the email requesting the progress reports, or you can log into EAB through the MyXula portal.
  2. If logging in through EAB, make sure you are on the Professor Home page and not the Staff Home page.
  3. Click on the link in the yellow banner to access your open progress reports worksheets.

Part 2: Submitting Reports for a Specific Class

  1. For now, you can skip over those students who are not "at risk of failing."
  2. For a student who is at risk of failing, click yes. The field turns red.
  3. Under Alert Reasons, select one or more options from the drop-down list. Please be specific, especially if multiple problems exist.
  4. In the next field, enter the number of classes the student has missed so far.
  5. If applicable, enter the student's current grade for the course. Remember that a student does not need to be currently failing to receive a progress report.
  6. In the comments field, offer a clear but concise explanation of your concern. Both the student and the advisor will see this message.
  7. Repeat this process for any students you are concerned about.
  8. Repeat for each class you are currently teaching.
  9. When done, scroll to the bottom of the page.
  10. If you cannot complete all of your reports, you can click the Submit Only Marked Students (But I'm Not Done) button.
  11. If you have completed reports for all at-risk students, click the Submit Unmarked Students as Not at Risk (I'm All Done) button.
