Welcome to #LearnEverywhereXULA
We are excited to have you take this course and are inspired by your commitment to improving the online learning experience of your students.
This asynchronous, self-paced, online course is organized around the eight General Standards for Higher Education set forth in the Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric Sixth Edition. The information provided in this course will allow you to develop high quality, well-designed, objective-driven courses on Brightspace for Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) students.
This #LEX course is designed to demonstrate and model pedagogical practices and standards that facilitate effective online instruction. The eight learning modules are based on the Quality Matters General Standards; however, each module is tailored to emphasize the tools available in Brightspace and the "Xavier Touch," our faculty's mission-driven commitment to support every student.
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Develop an online course that incorporates eight general standards for quality online teaching.
- Build an online course in the Brightspace learning management system.
- Design an online course specifically for the education of XULA students.
In addition to the course objectives listed above, you will encounter more specific objectives in each module known as module objectives. The connection between the course objectives, module objectives, and activities you are assigned will be explained in each module to ensure that you know the purpose of each activity you are asked to complete and how it will assist you in meeting the course and module objectives.
Each module in the #LEX course follows the same structure: a statement of learning objectives; instruction through video, weblinks, and text; illustrations of how to address the topic in Brightspace; an assignment to build an aligned component in Brightspace; and a reflective activity. This companion #LEX course wiki resource contains the eight learning modules, and each module has four tasks: Get Started, Learn More, See Examples, and Take Action. The module assignments and reflective activities are not available in this wiki resource.
