Learning Objectives: Take Action
What Can Your Students Expect to Learn?
Learning Objectives need to be defined clearly and made readily available. This kind of transparency, whether applied at the program level, the course level, the unit level, or even the activity level significantly increases the likelihood that the student will succeed.
Learning Objectives Checklist
As you develop your course in Brightspace, be sure to use this checklist to review your incorporation of learning objectives/outcomes throughout the course. This checklist is based on the Quality Matters Specific Review Standards 2.1-2.5.
- ✓ The course learning objectives, or course/program competencies, describe outcomes that are measurable.
- ✓ The module/unit-level learning objectives or competencies describe outcomes that are measurable and consistent with the course-level objectives or competencies.
- ✓ Learning objectives or competencies are stated clearly, are written from the learner’s perspective, and are prominently located in the course.
- ✓ The relationship between learning objectives or competencies and learning activities is clearly stated.
- ✓ The learning objectives or competencies are suited to the level of the course.
