Assessment and Measurement: Take Action

Measuring Student Learning

Assessments are activities designed to test the students’ competence in the learning objectives of a module or course, while also giving students the opportunities to improve their learning. Assessments are also opportunities for you to inform your teaching practices.

Assessment and Measurement Checklist

As you develop your course in Brightspace, be sure to use this checklist to review your incorporation of learning objectives/outcomes throughout the course. This checklist is based on the Quality Matters Specific Review Standards 3.1-3.5.

  • ✓ The assessments measure the achievement of the stated learning objectives or competencies.
  • ✓ The course grading policy is stated clearly at the beginning of the course.
  • ✓ Specific and descriptive criteria are provided for the evaluation of learners’ work, and their connection to the course grading policy is clearly explained.
  • ✓ The assessments used are sequenced, varied, and suited to the level of the course.
  • ✓ The course provides learners with multiple opportunities to track their learning progress with timely feedback.
